When we dye our hair, bleach it, or have ANY chemical service done, such as perms or relaxers, we will inevitably damage our scalp. It is proven, that to the cellular damage to the structure of your hair occurs, not only from these services, but from the products we use at home.
But why is this important?
Rob Guimond, founder of HairpHix has done extensive research on hair and scalp health. He has found that scalp health is essential to long healthy hair. And one very important part of scalp health is the Acid Mantle.
The acid mantle is a very thin acid layer on the surface of the scalp that acts as a barrier to protect it from harmful and dangerous chemicals. Any interruption in the acid mantle allows the absorption of these harmful chemicals and can cause long term damage to the hair follicle.
Since the acid mantle is directly affected by pH, anything above a pH of 5.5 can damage the acid mantle.
The increase in pH interferes with this protective barrier, separates the cells from each other which results in dehydration, roughness, and irritation.
At this point, the scalp is defenseless and is susceptible to additional cellular damage.
The result of this damage is fine and thinning hair, redness of the scalp, rash, or an itchy scalp.
What are the results of this chemical damage?
Dry hair, weakened hair rooting, hair loss and will almost always cause weakened growth.
So, what should I ask my stylist?
Since all the chemical changes made in the hair require raising the pH, up to 10 with the most permanent color, perms or straighteners. This can severely compromise a clients hair.
Even many sulfate-free shampoos have a high pH, which will not only compromise the acid mantle, but it will also strip your color.
Most styling and finishing products are in the same high pH range.
This is why it is essential to request that all your products are in the pH range of 4.5-5.5.
Insist that your stylist only use products from this range.
If the pH is not clearly labeled in the product, it must be assumed to be alkaline (pH above 7).

What is a Blowout?
A blowout is a way to dry your hair to achieve a better look, something different from day to day. For this, each part of the hair is manipulated to achieve a smooth and voluptuous finish.
But the Blowout not only has an aesthetic purpose, but it is also important to keep your hair healthy. Therefore, you must be careful with the brush you use and how you are drying your hair.
Do not wait until your next haircut, marriage or special event to show off your blowout!
Just follow these steps that Label.m recommends ...
1.- Do Nothing:
The first way to get a better blowout is to allow your hair to air dry, or towel dry. Allowing the moisture to leave your hair naturally will make the later styling process so much easier. This also cuts down on the amount of damage your hair gets day in and day out. That way, when you do get a blowout, it looks even better!
2.- Protect it:
Always make sure to apply a heat protectant Like Label.m BlowOut Spray, before using hot tools on your hair. You are at risk of damaging your hair each time you use a blow dryer, curling iron, or a straightener. Using a heat protectant will prevent your hair from damage such as split ends and breakage. Applying a heat protectant to damp hair is a quick step that will go a long way to protect your hair before it’s too late.
3.- Rough Dry:
If your hair is still fairly damp, then make sure that you rough dry it before styling. To do this, just use your hand to shake your hair as you blow-dry it. If you need a brush to rid hair of tangles, opt for a vent or paddle brush. A rough dry simply removes any extra moisture to further help you style your hair. After the rough dry, your hair should be slightly damp and ready for that round brush!
4.- Choose Your Weapon Wisely:
Okay, no weapons are needed— no hair was hurt during the making of this style. You may not need weapons, but what you do need is styling tools! For Added Volume, use products like Label.m Texturizing Volume Spray. Also, choosing the right brush is a crucial factor in obtaining a better blowout. The best brush for many when performing a blowout is a round brush. A round brush smooths and styles your hair as you dry it and allows for control. Depending on the size of the barrel, different round brushes will give you the size of curls or volume that you desire. Think of it this way: the bigger the brush, the bigger the style!
5.- Smooth it out:
Once you’re done drying your hair, apply Label.m Smoothing Cream to tame any flyways that remain. Sometimes, your baby hairs just won’t cooperate and a smoothing product is the perfect way to put those babies to bed.
6.- Set it:
Don’t forget to finish your style off with Label.m Hairspray to ensure a long lasting gorgeous style.
